Rip Curl Youth Omega 4/3mm Back Zip GBS Steamer Wetsuit
Rip Curl continues to up the stakes when it comes to their entry-level wetsuits, now offering sealed seam options across the Omega Steamer range. Although this means a slightly higher price than the old flatlock seam wetsuits (less effective at keeping water out), it makes a lot of sense when it comes to your 4/3mm wetsuits. The reason is that if you’re in the market for something as thick as a 4/3mm, you’re in some fairly cold water and definitely need stitching that isn’t going to let the cold in.
That’s not the only thing you’re paying the additional dollars for though; the Omega 4/3mm GBS steamer is also equipped with E5 neoprene and mesh skin panels. E5 neoprene is a super stretchy type of neoprene that Rip Curl previously used in their premium wetsuits, the point being it’s highly flexible and still used across much of their core range. Mesh Skin panels are a perfect addition to any winter wetsuit as the smooth black rubber is made to absorb heat from the sun, and reduce the effects of wind chill.

Kids Omega 4/3mm GBS Steamer Wetsuit Features:
- Sealed GBS Seams: Instead of merely stitching neoprene panels together, this approach uses a blind stitch (which doesn’t completely penetrate through the neoprene) and glue to reduce the chances of any water entering your wetsuit through the seams.
- Back Zip Entry: Makes getting your wetsuit off and on really easy, although not as performance-based as a chest zip or zipperless.
- E5 & E3 Neoprene: E3 neoprene is only used in low-stretch areas, whereas the light & stretchy E5 neoprene is used where there’s plenty of movement. More flex means easier paddling/surfing.
- Mesh Skin Panels: A smooth external rubber panel that absorbs heat from the sun whilst reducing wind chill, making for toasty surf sessions.
- Critical Stress Point Taping: A flexible taping glued to the interior of seam intersections that experiences more stretching to improve seam durability.
